EMDR is about more than healing.

EMDR therapy can allow you to replace fear and stress with strength and confidence by gently reshaping how you remember and react to past experiences.

While EMDR was initially developed to treat trauma, its use as a therapy has grown over time. EMDR can also help with the following concerns:

Rediscover your inner strength and step into your most empowered self.

Get relief from the emotions and memories that are holding you back.

Past events affect everyone differently. EMDR restructures distressing memories and uncouples them from the emotions and physiological responses so that you can move forward with freedom and peace.

What Is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR Therapy is a process that is different from other forms of therapy. We will walk through it together one step at a time, at a pace that feels comfortable to you.

Treatment Planning (1-3 Sessions)

We start by taking time to understand your history and what results you want most out of EMDR therapy so that we can develop a treatment plan that's tailored to you.

Preparation (1-3 Sessions)

Next, you will learn techniques to help you manage distressing emotions that may arise. Your therapist will teach you self-soothing and coping exercises that will help you manage potential emotional responses during the later stages of therapy. At every stage, we will only move forward as you are comfortable. We will never rush you.

Assessment (1-2 Sessions)

During the assessment phase, you and your therapist will choose a memory to focus on. You will identify the visual imagery associated with this memory, as well as any negative self-beliefs, emotions, and physical sensations. You'll also determine a positive belief that you'd prefer to hold instead.

Desensitization (5-12 Sessions)

This stage is the the heart of EMDR therapy, during which you will focus on the traumatic memory while engaging in eye movements or other bilateral stimulation guided by the therapist. The goal here is to ease and reprocess the emotional distress triggered by the memory.

Installation & Body Scan (1-2 Sessions)

Your therapist will then work with you to strengthen the positive belief you identified earlier. This is known as installation. During the body scan phase, you will focus on any residual physical sensations associated with the traumatic memory, and additional work will be done to desensitize these responses.

Closure & Re-Evaluation (1 Session)

Closure is how we make sure you leave each therapy session feeling stable and safe, using the exercises we went through during the preparation stage. During evaluation, we assess your progress and decide which memory or situation to target next. We repeat this at the start of each subsequent session to stay aware to how you are feeling.
