What can Couples Counseling help with?
Through a series of therapy sessions we will equip you with options, tools and support to help you and your partner resolve conflicts and improve communication.
It can be hard when you feel like you are always at odds with your partner or when disagreements seem to spiral out of control, leaving you exhausted and hurt. In therapy, we will work on effective conflict management and resolution strategies, helping you transform painful arguments into constructive discussions.
When communication breaks down in a relationship it can leave both of you feeling misunderstood, unappreciated and emotionally distant. In therapy, we will help you learn to express your thoughts and emotions clearly, as well as listen effectively to your partner, helping you both feel more connected.
Trust in a relationship is fragile, and once it’s broken it can be difficult to restore. Whether your trust was betrayed from one major event such as infidelity, or an accumulation of smaller incidents, it can lead to feelings of betrayal, hurt and anger. In therapy, we help you get to the root issue and re-establish a trusting relationship.
Healthy boundaries are a cornerstone of a strong relationship. They can help build trust and respect while giving each of you the space you need to grow. Therapy can help each of you define and communicate your boundaries, creating a respectful and comfortable space within the relationship.
There was a time in your relationship where you couldn’t stand to be apart. Over time, it seems like those feelings fade, leaving space to build a deeper, more meaningful connection. Couples therapy can help you rediscover each other, find ways to reignite that spark, and strengthen the emotional and physical intimacy in your relationship.

Frequently Asked Questions About Couples Counseling
Absolutely not. As therapists, our role is to remain neutral and unbiased. Our goal is to help both of you express your feelings and thoughts in a respectful manner and to guide you towards a deeper understanding of each other. It’s not about who’s “right” or “wrong” but about fostering mutual respect, understanding, and connection. We are here to provide the tools and understanding you need to process your emotions and move forward in a productive way.
We want you and your partner to feel comfortable and safe talking to us, and it’s important to voice any discomfort you may feel during therapy. This can actually become a valuable part of the process! Your therapist is there to help manage these feelings and facilitate productive conversations. Remember, it’s a safe space to express your feelings, even if those feelings are about the therapy itself.
There is no limit to the number of sessions you can attend, and no guarantee that your situation will be resolved in a specific number of visits. Your relationship and situation are unique to you, and may take only a few sessions to gain the clarity and resolution you are looking for. On the other hand, if you are dealing with a serious issue, or the commitment to change isn’t there, it can take several months or more to reach your goals. Some couples continue with therapy on a casual basis after their initial concerns are resolved because they appreciate the maintenance aspect of it for their relationship. Generally, sessions are held weekly or bi-weekly, lasting for about 55 minutes. We’ll continually reassess and adjust the frequency and duration based on your progress and comfort level.
Absolutely! Couples counseling can be beneficial for any kind of romantic relationship, regardless of marital status or whether it fits a traditional mold. The focus is on improving communication, understanding, and connection between two people. Whether you’re dating, engaged, cohabitating, or in a non-traditional relationship, therapy can provide valuable tools to enhance your relationship dynamics.
Setting therapy goals is a collaborative process between you, your partner, and the therapist, and may be the first step to strengthening your communication skills. In the first sessions, we’ll discuss your concerns, challenges, and what you hope to achieve from therapy. Based on these discussions, we’ll establish clear, achievable goals that will guide our work together. As we progress, we’ll continually reassess and adjust these goals as needed.
